When I was growing up I was always drawn to building games. I would spend hours on Rollercoaster Tycoon, tons of years playing games like Civilization and Sims till I had no time to play them (damn you working life). This is why I wanted to try RPG Tycoon from Skantanic Studios. Created by one man RPG Tycoon has all you love about the tycoon games we are all used to with the added appeal of Fantasy.

The game has a very retro style which reminds me of Civilization 3 mixed with 8-bit. I was drawn into the game very quickly, I love how the game flows and the hero aspect of the game. You must hire heroes to live in your town, complete quests, help settlements and even guard your taverns, but the aspect which I really thought was a good touch was the epic quests which has a dice game element to it. Think the classic choice your path adventure books.

The game is entertaining, I am happy you can rename your heroes (who wants the keep the name Robert the terrible) and the look of the game is quaint. My only slight annoyances were the bloody box in the bottom left hand corner, which you can't get rid of and The fact you can't find your heroes very well. If it had the same button, like on Rollercoaster Tycoon, where you could go straight to your hero that would make the game much easier to navigate.

But this is a minor thing. Overall the game is really entertaining and has an addictiveness to it which kept me playing for literally hours. A must buy if you enjoy building games.

Remember those days when you spent days playing games like ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON and games of that type? Well Skatanic Studio's have gone back to those days of retro with the very retro 8bit style Tycoon game RPG TYCOON.

Start with a single plot of land and limited funds with which to hire the services of your starting Heroes before sending them on over 30 quick and 60 epic quests that, should they be successful, will see the fame of your kingdom grow. This fame in turn attracts settlers from surrounding towns who will be looking to spend money in the shops and on services you add to your kingdom. Watch those coffers begin to fill – at least for as long as you keep those settlers happy, so don’t forget to increase its ambience with some well placed trees or decorative items. Who doesn’t like a fountain?

You won’t be alone in your ventures as competing AI governed kingdoms will also be vying for the highest score and to be awarded the title of ‘Greatest Kingdom in All the Land’

Check out the trailer below and keep your eyes open for a review of the game coming soon.
