After the WCW invasion storyline bombed tremendously and the return of the NWO kind of wasn't amazing the WWE split their bulging roster into two and created several years of amazing TV...well amazing Smackdown's but hey ho. The original brand split turned sour after ECW flopped and the lines between RAW and Smackdown become blurred to much leaving Smackdown the withering mess it is now.
The brand split as a whole got mixed reactions back in the day and many people have wanted to see the return of it for a long time now, me being one of those people. I grew up on the brand split era and I was a hardcore Smackdown fan. We saw the rise of some of the biggest names in the business, The rise of Eddie, Cena, JBL, CM Punk, Brock Lesner and Undertaker had some brilliant matches. We saw Angle take on Lesner in one of the best Iron Matches in History, We saw the epic Ring Collapse and we had some amazing storylines all under the writing of Mr Paul Heyman. However that was a time where we had too many superstars than wwe could handle, it was a great solution to this but with the recent injuries and firings of mid card acts how are WWE going to fill 5 hours of TV a week? Will we have two champions as we know one champion didn't really work before. What does this mean for NXT? will this be ECW revival done correctly? Will Triple H make it is own brand or will it just be picked over to fill the two new brands? or will WWE clear out the TNA roster and bring some new talent to the roster along with superstars from Evolve?
This will be an interesting time come July with so many questions needing to be answered. I think, if done correctly, this could be a good thing to help pick up the falling ratings of both shows but lets hope we get a roster which isn't as PG as Raw is now.
