At the end of every year I usually can't wait to do my best of horror movie list but this year was a bit different, maybe I just didn't watch enough horror or I have overlooked some hidden gems but I just couldn't come up with ten movies that deserved the "best of" title. Now, according to a lot of genre fans this year was apparently the " best year for horror in decades" yes, that was the exact words a fellow fan/critic said to me during a debate on Facebook! Sorry, but I'm just not feeling it. I watched the majority of the big hitters such as Blair Witch & Don't Breath and I tried to squeeze in as much indie horror as I could such as Beyond the Gates and Siren, these movies were okay but I didn't feel like we would be talking about them in years to come or using them as recommendation too new fans in the future.
Based on this I have stretched the boundaries a bit whilst compiling my top ten, so here we go:

10. The Shallows
What can I say, I'm a sucker for a good shark movie and this film didn't disappoint. The CGI was so realistic, which always help to keep you in the zone and the movie moved at a terrific pace - the ending was a bit far fetched but awesome at the same time.

9. The Conjuring 2
You can't guarantee that a movie will be good but throw James Wan in the directors chair and your half way there. I loved the Conjuring 2, everything from the old English setting to the spooky crooked man song. This is my kinda horror movie man.

8. 10 Cloverfield Lane
I actually put off watching this movie for a long time, I'm not a great fan of claustrophobic movies but after reading some awesome reviews I gave it a bash and boy was I impressed, the scene with the acid spill was an absolute win for me.

7. Blood Father
What is it about Mel Gibson and is ability to completely pull it out of the bag when you think is career is done? Blood Father is a violent Mexican gangster film that mixes all the right ingredients to a bloody great time, it's worth seeing just for Mel Gibson's action hero.

6. Fear Inc
I caught this film at the Frightfest Halloween all day event, I knew nothing about it and sometimes that's the best way to approach a movie, Fear Inc is the horror version of Fincher's The Game and it is a horror fans wet dream with all the Easter eggs it throws at you.

5. Kubo and the Two Strings
I can't stop recommending this movie to my friends, I know most of them will pass it off as a kids movie and not give it the time but for those who do, they are in for a treat - it's like Kill Bill for kids.

3. The Jungle Book
I loved Jon Favreau's version of Rudyard Kiplings’ classic story, perfect mix of action and drama for the whole family to enjoy.

2. Captain America: Civil War
It's amazing how the movie studios can keep churning out these Marvel movies with such quality, I feel really invested in these characters and I actually care about them, silly I know but I've been team marvel since Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. Usually a film as good as this would be number 1 on my list but it has just been pipped by the winner which is....

1. The Train to Busan
Absolutely breathtaking movie that needs to be seen to be believed, it is heavy on both the emotional and horror aspect and will stay with you a long time after you have seen it.

I feel I should give honourable mention to Suicide Squad & Ghostbusters, both movies have had their fare share of backlash by both critics and fans since release but I found them to be great movies, movies are there to entertain and that's exactly how I felt watching these, people who skipped these movies based on the opinion of others are sadly missing out.....plus, there's something sexy about how Kate McKinnon licks those guns.
