Focusing on the art, Derek Charm uses a wide variety of colours to express the various locations the story take space in. Unfortunately most of the backgrounds are plain which makes part of the academy look like a hospital with plain white walls. Each alien species drawn in this book and there must be over 25 including the party scenes all look different with Vel being my favourite (although that’s possibly caused by him being my favourite character in the story). The variant cover art included in the graphic novel again makes great use of colours and demonstrates the simple backgrounds and most are good. Then I saw the detail in Stephen Thompson drawing of T’laan’s team is brilliant and to be honest I would have preferred him to draw the whole comic with Derek Charm doing the facial expressions.
To conclude I didn’t feel hindered by not knowing much about Star Trek and the story was interesting but not too confusing so it inspired me to watch some of the Star Trek films. Any recommendations which.
