I love the artwork on display here, unlike some horror comics I can't get into, Martin Morazzo (whose previous works include NightHawk, Great Pacific and Generation X) brings the horror to life in ever panel, especially in the grimness of the kitchen scene where you find the fate of Byron's Parents.
The writing is also a huge factor of my love for this first issue, the dark comedy in some of the scenes made my chuckle, my favourite being the line near the end where 5V utters the line 'What's Your Name?' only to mutter to the kids response 'Fuck you Byron'.
The Ice Cream Man has intrigued me. I want to see what the bloody hell is going on. I was left with questions, wondering what is this Ice Cream Man really?
If you would like an horror ready that isn't majorly bleak (like the very entertaining Redlands) then this one here is the one for you. It feels fresh with a b-movie kind of a feel without it being over the top cheese. Really enjoyed this, give it a try 'Lickety Split'.
